The Jazztet — Meet the Jazztet

The Jazztet, led by Benny Golson and Art Farmer, recorded this LP for Argo in February 1960. It’s soulful hard bop that is typical for the era, which I’ve been enjoying more than ever lately. This was the first record for the group and it features some very strong players that would go on to have a large impact–Curtis Fuller (tb), McCoy Tyner (p), Addison Farmer (bs), and Lex Humphries (dr). It includes well known Golson compositions like “Killer Joe”, “I Remember Clifford”, and “Blues March”, which is posted below. Golson also recorded the latter while with Art Blakey’s group in 1958, where it appeared on the seminal LP “Moanin”. (Details: Argo LP 664/deepgroove)
