Here is a well-loved later pressing of Sonny Rollins’ 1966 Impulse release East Broadway Run Down. I have found that these later red and black label pressings sound excellent, as do the originals. This copy has been around the block and plays back with noise, but I’m still glad to have it. This is a pretty free setting for Rollins, in a chordless quartet along with Freddie Hubbard (tp), Jimmy Garrison (bs), and Elvin Jones (dr). An excerpt of the opening track, which fills the whole first side of the record, is included below.
