Here’s the first release in Blue Note’s 7000 series, Sidney Bechet’s Blue Note Jazz Men, which contains music from 1949 and 1950 sessions led by Bechet. The personnel varies throughout, but the track below features Bechet, Wild Bill Davidson (cor), Jimmy Archey (tb), Joe Sullivan (p), Pops Foster (bs), and Slick Jones (dr).
This 10″ LP has been played a bunch, but is still a good listen. I was surprised at the sound quality considering the era it was recorded. It beats out some other recordings I’ve heard from that time.
