Recorded in December 1963 and released the following year, this essential LP was a hit for Blue Note, peaking at #25 on the top 200 and #10 on the r&b charts. The title track, which also charted as a single, opens with Billy Higgins (dr) creating the blueprint for all the funky post-bop tracks that followed it.
I don’t know any solid figures, but I would guess that this and Jimmy Smith’s “Back at the Chicken Shack” were the best selling Blue Note releases of that era. Feel free to comment if you have any information about that.
