This 1958 Hampton Hawes session has become one of my favorite west coast jazz records. The whole record, anchored by Shelly Manne and Red Mitchell, feels bright and swinging, and a particularly bluesy Barney Kessel rounds out the group.
Both the cover and vinyl are in clean condition and it sounds great with only an occasional light noise…and I believe this is a first pressing. One of the uptempo tunes, “Sweet Sue”, is included below.
