Boogaloo Joe Jones — Black Whip

I was glad to see this in a local record shop a few weeks ago.  I had heard some tracks by Ivan “Boogaloo Joe” Jones over the years, but never seen his records around or scored one online.  He’s a really excellent guitar player that recorded eight albums of funk/soul jazz for Prestige between 1968-1973–Black Whip is the last in that series. Ron Carter is in funky upright bass mode, and Sonny Phillips, another musician on several Prestige dates during this era, is here playing organ and electric piano.

Like you, I had heard some tracks but never have seen the LPs. That still seems to be the case. Strange considering he put out quite a few albums. Thanks for the post. This is good and funky stuff.
