Aretha Franklin’s hit 1967 single “Chain Of Fools” is a favorite of mine in a catalog full of desert island tracks. This 45 isn’t in perfect condition, but it’s mono goodness powers through and sounds great–and is interesting to hear after years of listening to the stereo CD reissue. In addition to the great playing of Jimmy Johnson (gt), Joe South (gt), Spooner Oldham (kb), and Tommy Cogbill (bs), this is a killer drum track from Roger Hawkins. He’s the baddest and is really underrated as far as I can tell.
